LED Lighting Benefits
On the LED retrofit jobs that we did in the past, three aspects seemed most important to the end users:
- LED longevity: LED lamps can far outlast any other lighting technology, reducing the typical lamp and ballast maintenance expenses incurred on a bi-yearly or yearly basis. If you have a parking lot with 20 poles and each pole has four lighting fixtures, those costs can add up quickly.
- Operation costs: LED fixtures use a fraction of the energy to operate compared to fixtures with similar lighting outputs and technologies.
- Rebates: Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) offers rebates to switch to LED lighting. BGE gives up to $50.00 per fixture in rebates if the fixture is listed on the DLC list. You must submit a paperwork package to BGE for approval. During this process, you can see your return on investment from switching to LED. Between the rebates and savings on energy usage, a typical return on investment is six to eight years, which is well before any maintenance on the product should be needed.
